A single-acting hydraulic cylinder with spring return provides the jacking force between the handle and the receptacle. Up to 10 tonnes of force can be applied to overcome friction caused by calcareous growth or similar deposits.
The distance between the handle hooks and foot plate can be adjusted prior to deployment using a combination of spacers.
