Extended-Life Manual Lock-Out Tool

The Extended-Life Manual Lock-Out Tool (EMLOT) is designed as a contingency to keep a linear actuated valve open should the hydraulic actuator fail and has a subsea working life expectancy of at least 25 years.

Features

Simple and reliable
Long life expectancy
Field proven

The tool withstands an applied load of 50 tonnes with minimal stresses being induced. The EMLOT includes a lock-in gauge to prevent the rod from extending during installation.

The principle of operation is to install the tool onto the valve and extend the rod until it touches the actuator rod of the valve. A nominal torque is applied to the tool to put some preload onto the rod. In the event of hydraulic failure of the valve actuator, the valve spring will try to return the valve to the open position, but this is prevented by the EMLOT.
