The AM1 Valve Hole Cutting Tool is used to create access to a subsea tree needle valve that has become inoperable due to deterioration over time, often encountered in decommissioning projects.

The VHCT is installed onto the valve body via ROV manipulator and grips the valve using an in-built clamping mechanism, holding the tool in place during cutting operation.
The VHCT cuts through the valve actuator to allow free movement of the valve stem. Hydraulic pressure is applied underneath the valve stem to permanently open the valve (this is an irreversible process).
